Philosophy of Teaching and Learning

Philosophy of Teaching and Learning Introduction What is the significance of teaching? How can we learn best from our teachers? Do students have a responsibility inside the classroom or is it merely the teacher who is in charge of everything? Here I will outline my personal perspective in teaching and my perception about my teachers in the past and how they mold me as a person and as a nurse and become useful to me right now. I will talk about the important values and characteristics a teacher must have and how it can change a life of a student. Teaching started from the time we enter in this world when our mother teach us how to properly suck in their breast, teach us how to lace our shoes, how to wash our butt in the toilet and so on. Our brain has a significant role in acquiring this knowledge. Studies show that person vary whether left or a right person. Left person develops dominance toward one side of the brain and have a certain characteristics like they are said to be l...

Gifted Hands

Image
You can do anything you want to do, just believe in yourself and the power of prayer. That is one of the lesson that I learned from on of my favorite of all time "The Gifted Hands by Ben Carlson". This is an inspiring movie about a Neurosurgeon who was a dumb student when he was young and taught by her mother to believe in himself that he can be smart by reading and studying very well. I don't want to write about the plot but instead, I would just enumerate some of the lessons I've learned from watching this movie. The first lesson is the respect he had to his mother as well as the unconditional love of his mother to Ben and his brother. They were only 3 in the family because their father left them for another woman and so the mother raised her children alone. She secretly worked as a cleaner to provide for her family and her dreams for them is so powerful that she did everything to send them to a very good school just like my mom. When we transferred here in Manil...

Meaning of my name

What Jared Means You are fair, honest, and logical. You are a natural leader, and people respect you. You never give up, and you will succeed... even if it takes you a hundred tries. You are rational enough to see every part of a problem. You are great at giving other people advice. You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection. You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive. You have the classic "Type A" personality. You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something. You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense. You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun. You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone. You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together. At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it togethe...

What I stand for?

A lot of people especially the youth are trying to figure out what they really are as a person. Mainly because, this is the stage of their life that they question their identity according to Erik Erickson, a German psychologist who described life stage virtues into eight stages. Identity vs Role confusion is the fifth stage which among twelve to twenty years of age. I remember myself during that age as my worst years in my life and I believe that these confusions I had before affects what I am as a person today. This is nothing new for most of in the LGBT community because this is really what happen to us at this stage. What I had experienced affects the decision I make today and sometimes I will just assess first if it is really for my good or not. When I was 20 years old, I made a decision to myself that I will stand for what I feel and just live in peace with it- 'I'm gay' and should be proud of it I say to myself. I made a stand after...

Plagiarism

Since highschool, I know what is plagiarism is all about. According to the Webster dictionary, plagiarism is stealing and passing off ideas or words of another as one's own or use it without crediting the source. We're not only talking about copying word by word when we are describing plagiarism. I knew this even before because we studied it, I read something or related with plagiarism and I know the consequences if you will commit plagiarism. Stealing is something that I really condemn and whenever I remember the guy who were stealing from a drunk guy in the jeepney when I was commuting going to work, It really sucks because I cannot afford to see how desperate people to get money. They don't know how people work so hard to get that money and some bad, desperate and annoying people just want to steal. Stealing is never new for me, I am known in the family who always experienc...

Trashpaper

It's been 5 years since I graduated. The situation where I am now is one of the reason some people get frustrated about themselves. Honestly, I am too. I need to lift my self now and push myself up to overcome my frustrations. Some of my friends are already abroad pursuing their dreams to work and get big a salary. Their careers are like skyrockets. Some have there own family already while some are enjoying their lives as if they have no problems at all. I've realized that it all depends on me and what I have accomplished so far . People became successful not by chance or luck but by their perseverance and good attitude. And to be honest, I can do that. But what's stopping me... Probably my fears and anxiety. Problems can never be like a trashpaper that when you have an error in your writing, you just simply crumpled the paper and throw it on the trashcan. No, it's not like that. Problems are meant to be solved, and I have to face the situation where I am right now. p...

Past

I've been trying hard to think of what can I post here in my blog. I know that there are lot of things that can write to and there are thousands of them in different websites. I do not read much of the blogs of others and that's one thing that I should try to do regularly. Not to get ideas on the topic that I should write but for me to be creative somehow in writing. I am hesitant to write personal information here because I am very private person and often isolated myself to others. Only few people really knew who I am and one thing that I'm afraid of is rejection. For me to overcome this, I made a lot of adjustments in my life. It is never too late for me to break free of the past and so i need to look back on the past and wonder how my experiences scarred me. Since I was a young boy, I am very insecure with myself. I notice my classmates playing basketball and I never even knew how to hold a ball or shoot it. I always end up playing on the slides at playgrounds, 'p...

A Thousand Years

Image
After I watched the Breaking Dawn part 2 yesterday, I have played this song several times remembering the wonderful, exciting and romantic story of the 'twilight' movie. I had never read even a single one of the books written by Stephenie Meyer, but I watched them all in the cinema since it was began to show in December of 2008. It is a series of a vampire-wolf-human love triangle fantasy novel which became one of the highest gross film in series of all time. The lead actors became the highest paid actors in hollywood and their lives became open to public. My favorite part on the last sequel of the Twilight series would be the battle scene between the Cullens/Wolves and the Volturi (the most powerful coven of vampires). Alice' character has always been significant in the story but this time she became a hero through her power when she was touched by Aro, the Volturi leader, and through that touch ...

Destination: Heaven

Image
Endtimes. This is the topic in our church for the past four weeks. I only attended 1 topic which everything talks about hell. I asked my friend leica on what is the message for today because I was not able to attend and told me that she's so bless and she learned a lot about heaven. Instead of being sad about it that i was not able to attend, i'd rather read about it on the bible and meditate and I know God is already please with that.  When I was still young, heaven was so vague for me. I really do not understand what it looks like. When I watched the movie of Donita Rose climbing the stairs going to heaven, it became a picture and believed that this is really going to happen to me when the time I will die. It is not so hard for me to understand heaven because my parents raised us attending Sunday masses and I even grew from a Catholic School. Reading Bible never been a habit for me and I can only hear heaven from my teachers, parents and environment. So my picture of he...

Unemployment

Image
Unemployment here in the Philippines does not only happen here but across the world. In the last recession in United States, the most powerful nation in the world, even experience unemployment to many of their people. According to statistics shown by the government of United States and the Philippines , unemployment rate is decreasing and progress to both country is improving. There are millions of unfilled job vacancies now in the U.S. compared to the last four years. Here in the Philippines, if people just are patient in finding job, they can all have a stable job for themselves.                       Filipinos took up nursing for the past 10 years and became in demand course, but the promise of stable job abroad became impossible because of the recession and unstable economy of other countries. Now, I am unemployed together with thousands of nurses ...

"Ingat Ka" by Silent Sanctuary was the music background of the video that my friends in CHMC given to me when I leave them. I thought this was the perfect song because the message of the song was really meant for me and I gave this credit to my dearest friend Portia. It's her idea to make the video and this was one of the most memorable gift I have ever received. These are the pioneers of OR in CHMC. I miss them all. Lexis - He thought me to have patience, his dedication to work admired me. He's just so simple person the way he wear clothes and act. He's got a humor that I never really understand but Jhoanna always laughs with him. Lourdes - I remember when we had misunderstanding but despite of it, I know we build a friendship when I opened my life with her everytime we eat together. I miss her food because some of them were unusual for me because her foods were mostly visayan dishes and I got to taste them. She's smart and loves to read books that I r...

Sembreak

Image
I never thought that I would experience again the beauty of sembreak. I just want to feel that I am a student now only that I'm taking up masters degree and not bachelor. Anyway, my vacation was in Ilocos Norte. It is a great comeback for me because Ilocos is my birthplace and my mother's root came from.                      The ride in going to Ilocos took us 81/2 hours of travel. We rode in Maria De Leon Bus for 750php which is their Deluxe. The chair can bend as if you are sleeping on a bed, the aircon is not so cold though I was prepared and I brought with me a 'batik' blanket that we bought in Davao before which is nice and beautiful. I was the only passenger whose awake almost the whole travel. Maybe because the bus was so fast and I actually have fear in speed but It must be the coffee that I drank in our home that kept me awake. When we arrived in laoag, My...

Success or trap?

I've been watching a lot of reality shows and talent search in the past few years. It becomes a hit all over the world. American Idol, Survivor and Amazing Race I believe started it all. Franchise of these shows are also a hit. I cannot believe sometimes what I have seen when people became hungry and greed of fame and power. I believe this is not good for all of us. Success become an idea of superstardom, fashion and fame. Little girls are imitating Lady gaga and Katy Perry while boys are looking upto Justin Bieber and Zayn Malik. Idea of people on success is different now. I believe that people should base their idea of success on who they really are and what makes them happy. Some people are trying to be someone else for approval or probably because of the pressure around them. Some people define success base from their travels. How many countries they've cross or foods they have tasted in different parts of the world. Sadly, some people base their success on material things...

Bad Experience

Hi there, its been months since I wrote my last entry here in my blog. I've been busy with my school and since it's already sem-break, it's probably time for me to write something. We all have a bad experience once in a while, before we got to work, traffic, air pollution or crowded people in MRT are some of the experience we have. Bad experiences have a different amount of degree base from its intensity, perception or severity. Failed relationships, Accidents, traumatic events, embarassing moments and all the problems can be our bad experiences. These experiences are essential to people whether you like it or not. With these, we can be able to learn deeper and appreciate goodness from the bad things that happen to us. We need to turn these negative events into good and positive outcome for us to survive and become strong person. There a numerous inspiring stories in the television are being shown everyday about triumphs, success and miracles people experience after they...

"NO!"

Image
Self-Realization is very important part of our lives so that all our negative attributes will turn into a good one. Most people do not show these traits because they are afraid of disapproval from their peers or simply called 'fear of rejection'. One of my negative side is simply saying 'No!' to somebody even if it may cause me to harm directly or indirectly.  Saying 'No!' is difficult for me because the easiest way for me is just to say 'yes' to everybody who's asking me help or inviting me to drink. Last week, my new classmates in Master's degree invited me to come with them in one of the famous bar in the city to drink. For the last few months, I already told myself not to go to anyplace that will  only  corrupt my mind and tempt me to all the things I already regret in doing.  Maybe, I was afraid to say 'No!' because I'm afraid that they would call me 'Killjoy' and i just want to have friends because they can be my ...

Fireproof

The whole country is grieving to Mang Cosme, as what I know him in my generation. Mang Kevin Cosme lives beside a trail way where trains pass by almost every hour, while they were cooking, chatting on the streets, and even while they were sleeping. Cosme's show was an inspiration for many Filipinos. He taught us that life was not really easy. Sometimes, he could provide a whole chicken for his family and he was so happy just to see his children be able to eat good food but there were times that they could not eat enough and shared for just a one piece of pork or fish for the whole of them. This is how a good father is Mang Cosme. I just cannot imagine how Dolphy finds time to all his children because they are eighteen. As I watch the news, he seems not hard for him because all of his children are in a good condition. Maybe, I also need to give credit to all of their mothers for taking good care of them. But being a father, i believe is not an easy task or role. One of his...

Food 101 - Igado

Image
When I think of my mom’s favorite viand for hot rice, It will be ‘Igado’. We’re a family from the province Laoag City in Ilocos and one of their pride dishes is ‘Igado’. This is my first food entry here and I’m so excited to put it in writing. It’s quite simple. Marinade: Using a Bowl, just mix the soy sauce, vinegar, garlic and ground black pepper then add the pork and liver and marinate for 1hour. Cooking: Sauté the garlic and onions then add the marinated meat. Add the laurel and mix together. Add the Knorr Chicken cube and mix together. Simmer slowly until meat is tender. Check from time to tim...

Nurse 101

Image
As a Nurse, I am very proud to say that my job is to save lives of people, remove their pains and by merely interacting with them, it alleviate their sufferings. This makes us important in this society. We come to patient to assess their complaints on their health and take appropriate action base from our scope of discipline. Life as a Nurse is not an easy Job. Some people don’t even recognize it as a job but here in the Philippines, it is more of a vocation because of a minimum wage salary we get.   Many Nurses nowadays focused to finding themselves job abroad so they take up different foreign exams and even study again to other countries. But for me, so many times, it struck to me to quit as a Nurse in the hospital because of burnout and not pursue international career anymore.   Maybe, I will try other venture like business or a Nurse educator. Now, that I am enrolled in a Graduate School, I can be able to pursue my dream to be a teacher. Though, nursing schools here ...

X Factor

Image
Last night was the premiere telecast of another franchised reality show on ABS-CBN, "XFactor". This brought me to Youtube to compare the Filipino style from the original X Factor UK. As we all know, several contestants attained their dreams in fame after joining the X Factor since it was began like Leona Lewis, the hottest boyband today "One Direction" and Chris Rene. The creator of X Factor is Simon Cowell. Several lawsuits were filed against Cowell, accusing him copied the format of his previous show "American Idol". But X Factor continues to spread around the world and now here in the Philippines.   Chris Rene was in the third place in the Season 1 version in United States. He is one of my idol in X factor. Oooops, this is not an Americal idol by the way but still he is one of the contestant who inspire me because of his life experience. His job b...

MANNY

Image
The reason that I started to blog was for me to improve in writing because I suck in this and also to entertain myself while studying and to make a journal of my life's experience. And It can  be a bonus for me if I can inspire people through this. It is important for me to write my life's lesson  that I am learning now especially that I'm building my relationship with Jesus. For those who don't  know, I'm recently praising Jesus at Victory Church in Metroeast for the past 3months. In just short  time, my life have changed and realized that the most important thing in life is to put Jesus in the  center of our lives.               The Pinoy pride Cong. Manny Pacquiao, "world's greatest boxer" and Forbes top 2 highest paid athlete who earned $62 million from...

DISEASES

As of 2007, the number one cause of mortality in the Philippines is Disease of the heart. Others, are Cancer, Pneumonia, Tuberculosis, Diabetes, Cerebro-vascular Accident and other diseases that can kill all of us here in this planet. Immortality is not likely to happen because as a Christian, we all know that only God is Immortal. So I would like to ask myself and whoever will read this, What really would happen after we die? Are these diseases made of man? Why do we need to suffer and undergo several treatments that are expensive and painful? There are million babies around the world who died as soon as their mother gave birth to them. Some live with juvenile diabetes, Children with diabetes since birth. Some with disabilities like babies with no legs, no eyesight and even no sex gender because of absence of either penis or vagina. These innocent children must be treated as normal human being so as for them to live to their maximum abilities. I just hope that their parents...

THE START

I've been thinking on starting my Jounal few years back. But i am hesitant because I am anxious on my English Grammar. While reading several blogs from different people here in blogspot, I started to try blogging just to improve my grammar and at the same time to write all my thoughts here in blogspot. I am 26 years old with few achievements in life. I'm still young and I still want to prove to my family and to myself that I just did not waste my time here on earth but made the most out of my time here on earth. 'Worry No More' I've learned that worrying is actually against the will of God. It will only create stress, one problem and another problem, not to mention you can also have wrinkles because of it and also It will only prove that you're not trusting God for he will not give anything that we human beings cannot handle in our lives. This is the hardest thing to avoid in times when you are rushing to go to your office or any workplace, in times when yo...
